# Referring Others (https://terac.com/docs/experts/how-to/referrals)

Earn commission by referring other experts to Terac.

Know someone who'd be a great fit for Terac? Refer them, and you earn a commission every time Terac pays them for their work.

## How It Works [#how-it-works]

1. Share your referral link with someone.
2. They sign up through it and take part in opportunities.
3. Every time Terac pays them for approved work, you earn a share of that payment: **20%** by default, up to **$1,000** from each person you refer.

Your cap for a person is set when they sign up, and there's no limit on how many people you can refer.

> Some opportunities advertise a higher referral rate for that opportunity. When
> you share one of those, you earn the higher rate on their payout for that
> opportunity, then 20% of everything else they earn on Terac. The rate is shown
> wherever you copy the link.

## Getting a Referral Link [#getting-a-referral-link]

![Browse Opportunities, with the Refer & earn section listing opportunities to refer people to, each with a Refer link and what it pays](https://terac.com/docs/experts/referrals-opportunities.png)

There are a few ways to get a link:

* **For a specific opportunity**: open any opportunity's details and copy the link in its **Refer & Earn** section, or click **Refer** on a card in the **Refer & earn** section of Explore. The person you refer lands on that opportunity.
* **Your general link**: on your referrals page at [terac.com/me/referrals](https://terac.com/me/referrals), click **Share your link**. You can copy it, or share it straight to Facebook, X, LinkedIn, or email.
* **After an application**: the last step of an application offers a link to refer that opportunity to someone else.

To find more opportunities to share, click **Find more studies to refer** on your referrals page.

Links are unique to you. Whoever signs up through your link is counted as your referral.

## Tracking Your Referrals [#tracking-your-referrals]

Your referrals page at [terac.com/me/referrals](https://terac.com/me/referrals) shows what you have earned and how your referrals are doing. It has three tabs:

* **Studies**: each opportunity you have referred people to, and what you earn on it.
* **People**: everyone you have referred, one row per person and opportunity, with where they are. Filter by stage: **Needs a push**, **Waiting**, **Placed**, **Not applied**, or **Closed**.
* **My connections**: upload the connections file you export from LinkedIn, and we'll show you which opportunities fit the people you know.

## When You Get Paid [#when-you-get-paid]

Your commission is added to your Terac balance each time Terac pays the person you referred: when their work on a one-time opportunity is approved and paid, or with each payout on an hourly or per-task project. You can cash it out like any other earnings, from your [Earnings page](https://terac.com/docs/experts/how-to/payments).

Work that Terac does not pay for, such as an opportunity they joined through another research panel, does not earn a commission.

> **Warning**
>
> If a one-time submission that earned you a commission is later rejected in
> review, that commission may be reversed.

## FAQ [#faq]

### Does my referral have to use my link when signing up? [#does-my-referral-have-to-use-my-link-when-signing-up]

Yes. The link is how Terac connects them to you. There is no referral code to enter, so if they sign up without your link, you won't get credit.

### What if they clicked someone else's link first? [#what-if-they-clicked-someone-elses-link-first]

The first referral link they clicked in that browser, within the last 30 days, is the one that counts.

### What if they already have an account? [#what-if-they-already-have-an-account]

Referral credit only applies to new accounts. You can't add someone who has already signed up.

### Is there a minimum they need to earn? [#is-there-a-minimum-they-need-to-earn]

No. You earn commission from the first payment Terac makes them.

### Can I refer myself with a second account? [#can-i-refer-myself-with-a-second-account]

No. Each person should have one account. Multiple accounts violate our terms and can lead to suspension.

### Are referral earnings taxable? [#are-referral-earnings-taxable]

Referral commissions are part of your total Terac earnings and may be taxable depending on where you live.
