Terms and conditions for the Terac expert referral program.

This policy outlines the terms and conditions of Terac's referral program for experts.

## Program Overview [#program-overview]

The Terac Referral Program allows you to earn commission when people you refer join Terac and are paid for their work.

## Commission Structure [#commission-structure]

### Commission Rate [#commission-rate]

By default, you earn **20%** of what Terac pays your referral for approved work.

Some opportunities advertise a higher referral rate for that opportunity. If you referred someone through one of those, you earn the higher rate on what they are paid for that opportunity, and 20% on everything else. The rate is shown wherever you copy the link.

### Earnings Cap [#earnings-cap]

The maximum you can earn from a single referral is **$1,000**. The cap is set when they sign up.

Once you've earned $1,000 from a specific referral, you stop earning commission from that person. You keep what you've already earned, unless a submission that earned it is later rejected in review (see below).

### No Limit on Referrals [#no-limit-on-referrals]

There's no limit to how many people you can refer. Each referral has their own $1,000 cap.

## Eligibility [#eligibility]

### Who Can Participate [#who-can-participate]

* Any expert with a Terac account can participate
* You don't need to have completed opportunities yourself
* Both new and existing experts can refer others

### Who Qualifies as a Referral [#who-qualifies-as-a-referral]

For someone to count as your referral:

* They must create a new Terac account
* They must use your referral link during sign-up
* They cannot have an existing Terac account

### When You Earn Commission [#when-you-earn-commission]

You earn commission each time Terac pays your referral:

* When their work on a one-time opportunity is approved and paid
* With each payout on an hourly or per-task project

Work Terac does not pay for, such as an opportunity they joined through another research panel, does not earn a commission. If an approved one-time submission that earned you a commission is later rejected in review, that commission may be reversed.

Share your link via:

* Direct message to friends or colleagues
* Social media posts
* Email to your network
* Professional communities

### Track Referrals [#track-referrals]

View your referrals and what you have earned from them on your referrals page, at [terac.com/me/referrals](https://terac.com/me/referrals).

## Commission Payment [#commission-payment]

Referral earnings are added to your regular Terac balance. You can [cash out](https://terac.com/docs/experts/how-to/payments) referral earnings the same way as any other earnings.

## Prohibited Activities [#prohibited-activities]

The following activities are not allowed and may result in program suspension:

### Self-Referral [#self-referral]

Creating multiple accounts to refer yourself violates our terms of service and may result in account termination.

### Fake Referrals [#fake-referrals]

Creating accounts for people who don't exist or without their knowledge is prohibited.

### Spam [#spam]

Mass unsolicited messaging or posting referral links where they're not welcome is not allowed.

### Misleading Claims [#misleading-claims]

Making false claims about Terac or the referral program to encourage sign-ups is prohibited.

### Incentive Stacking [#incentive-stacking]

Offering additional incentives beyond Terac's referral program (like paying people to sign up) is not allowed.

## Program Changes [#program-changes]

Terac reserves the right to:

* Modify commission rates
* Change the earnings cap
* Update program terms
* Suspend the program

We'll notify users of significant changes via email or in-app notification.

## Tax Considerations [#tax-considerations]

Referral earnings are taxable income in most jurisdictions. You're responsible for reporting these earnings according to your local tax laws.

## Termination [#termination]

We may suspend or terminate your participation in the referral program if:

* You violate these terms
* You violate Terac's general Terms of Service
* We detect fraudulent activity
