# Terac Glossary (https://terac.com/docs/experts/support/glossary)

Definitions of key terms used on Terac.

This glossary explains the terminology you'll encounter on Terac.

## A [#a]

### AI Interviewer [#ai-interviewer]

Terac's voice interviewer. It runs the onboarding interview, where it introduces itself as Sophia, and the short AI screening interviews some opportunities use. The interviewer does not decide: a person on our team, or our automated review, assesses the recording and transcript.

### Approval [#approval]

When your submitted work is accepted. On a one-time opportunity, earnings are added to your balance once your work is approved. On a project, you are paid on the project's payout schedule.

### Attestation [#attestation]

A verified fact about you that opportunities can rely on, such as a verified phone number, a verified identity, or a connected LinkedIn profile.

### Automated Review [#automated-review]

Terac's quality system reviewing your work instead of a person. Where it is switched on for an opportunity, it can approve your screening, usually in under a minute, and where rejecting is switched on too, it can reject a screening that falls below the quality bar. It is never based on how long a submission has been waiting.

## B [#b]

### Balance [#balance]

Your **Terac balance**: the money you have earned and not yet cashed out, shown on your Earnings page.

### Bonus [#bonus]

An additional payment on top of a study's base reward, for example for a follow-up session or an exceptional contribution. Bonuses appear in your transaction history.

## C [#c]

### Camera Quality Check [#camera-quality-check]

A quick check before some tasks that your face is visible, the lighting is good, and you are alone.

### Cash Out [#cash-out]

Moving money from your Terac balance to your payout balance, then withdrawing it to your bank.

### Commission [#commission]

What you earn from referrals: 20% by default of what Terac pays the person you referred, up to $1,000 per person. Some opportunities advertise a higher rate for that opportunity.

## E [#e]

### Earnings [#earnings]

Money you've earned from approved work, referral commissions, and bonuses, added to your Terac balance.

### Expert [#expert]

A verified participant on Terac who completes research opportunities. Also called a panelist.

### Explore [#explore]

The page in your dashboard, at terac.com/me/opportunities, that lists the opportunities open to you.

## H [#h]

### Handbook [#handbook]

The home page of a project-based opportunity. It covers how to do the work, how you get paid, and who to contact, with office hours, materials, and your tracked hours.

## I [#i]

### Identity Verification [#identity-verification]

A one-time check of your government-issued photo ID, required before you can cash out. It is run by Whop, our verification partner.

### Insightful [#insightful]

The time tracker used on hourly projects. On your computer the app is called Workpuls.

### Interview [#interview]

A short AI voice conversation: the onboarding interview, or a screening step on an opportunity. Some opportunities also have a live call you book.

### Invitation [#invitation]

An opportunity someone picked you for. Invitations appear on Home, where you can accept or decline them.

## O [#o]

### Onboarding [#onboarding]

The setup after you create an account: verifying your phone, connecting LinkedIn or adding your resume, reviewing your profile and hourly rate, and an optional interview. Identity verification comes afterwards.

### Opportunity [#opportunity]

A research study you can apply to. Each opportunity has its own requirements, pay, and tasks.

## P [#p]

### Panelist [#panelist]

Another term for an expert. A verified participant on Terac who completes research opportunities.

### Payout [#payout]

A payment to you: approved work credited to your Terac balance, or money you withdraw to your bank.

### Payout Balance [#payout-balance]

Your balance with Whop, our payout partner. You move money into it from your Terac balance, then withdraw it to your bank from the **Payout balance** panel on your Earnings page.

### Profile [#profile]

Your expert profile: your information, experience, education, skills, and hourly rate. A complete profile helps match you with opportunities.

### Project-Based Opportunity [#project-based-opportunity]

Ongoing work over a period of time, paid by the hour or per task on the project's payout schedule.

## R [#r]

### Referral [#referral]

A new user who signed up using your referral link. You earn a commission when Terac pays them for their work.

### Rejection [#rejection]

When submitted work is not approved in review. It can happen after an approval, in which case the payment for a one-time opportunity is reversed.

## S [#s]

### Screener [#screener]

Qualification questions asked early in the application. Screeners determine if you're eligible for a study.

### Screened Out [#screened-out]

When you don't meet the screening criteria for a study. This is common and not a reflection on you personally.

### Sophia [#sophia]

Terac's assistant. You can chat with her from your dashboard, these docs, or terac.com/help, and she hands anything she can't sort out to our support team.

### Submission [#submission]

Your application and work for a specific opportunity. A submission tracks your progress from application through payment.

## T [#t]

### Task [#task]

A piece of work within a submission, such as a survey, a file upload, a booked session, an agreement or contract, or a setup step on a project.

### Tracked Hours [#tracked-hours]

On an hourly project, the time the Insightful app recorded while your timer was running. Only tracked hours are paid, and a project may pay for only some of them: its **Tracked hours** tab shows your **Payable hours**.

## V [#v]

### Virtual Incentives [#virtual-incentives]

Our former payment provider, which emailed a reward link when you cashed out. Terac now pays out through [Whop](https://terac.com/docs/experts/support/glossary#whop). Payouts you already received through Virtual Incentives are not affected.

## W [#w]

### Whop [#whop]

Terac's payout partner. Whop holds your payout balance, runs a one-time identity verification before your first cash out, and transfers the money to your bank.
