# Understanding Submissions (https://terac.com/docs/experts/working/submissions)

Track your applications and understand what each status means.

A submission is your application and work for one opportunity. It is created when you start an application and follows you through screening, tasks, review, and payment.

## Where to Find Your Submissions [#where-to-find-your-submissions]

On **Home**, the **Your opportunities** section groups them in tabs:

* **Your turn**: there is something for you to do next.
* **Waiting on review**: you have handed something in and it is being reviewed.
* **History**: opportunities you have finished.
* **Paused**: when more than two of your opportunities are paused, they move here. A paused one says **This opportunity is paused for now.** Your progress is saved for when it resumes.

Click **Show all** to open your full history at [terac.com/me/opportunities/history](https://terac.com/me/opportunities/history). You can filter it by **All**, **Approved**, **In review**, **Screened out**, or **Rejected**.

## How a Submission Moves [#how-a-submission-moves]

Apply → Screening → Tasks → Review → Approval → Payout

Not every opportunity has every step, and review can happen more than once: after your screening, after a task, or both. On a project-based opportunity, you work from the project handbook once you are in, and you are paid on the project's schedule. See [Project-Based Work](https://terac.com/docs/experts/working/projects).

## What Each Status Means [#what-each-status-means]

| You see | What it means |
| ----------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **In Progress** | You are applying, screening, or working on the tasks. On a project, this lasts for the whole engagement |
| **Awaiting Review** or **In review** | You have handed something in and it is being reviewed. There is nothing for you to do |
| **Approved**, **Processing**, or **Paid** | Your work was accepted, and the payment is on its way or has landed in your balance |
| **Not a match** or **Screened out** | You did not match what the opportunity needed |
| **Not Selected** or **Rejected** | Your submitted work was not approved, or you were taken off a project |
| **Application closed** | The application ended before it finished, for example because you declined it |
| **Study cancelled** | The research team cancelled the opportunity |

Once your work on a one-time opportunity is approved, the earnings are added to your balance, and you can [cash out](https://terac.com/docs/experts/how-to/payments) once you reach the **$12.50** minimum.

## Review [#review]

Depending on the opportunity, your work is reviewed by our automated review, by our team, or by the research team. The screen you land on after handing something in says who is reviewing it and what happens next, and we email you when there is a decision.

* **Automated review** shows **We're reviewing your responses**, and when it finishes you carry on automatically or, on some opportunities, are declined.
* **The research team's review** shows **Your application is with the client**, and we email you if you are selected.

Review time depends on the opportunity. If yours has been awaiting review for more than **7 days**, [ask Sophia](https://terac.com/docs/experts/support/contact) and we'll chase it up for you. See [Rewards and Fair Pay](https://terac.com/docs/experts/policies/rewards#how-long-review-takes) for more.

## Leaving an Application [#leaving-an-application]

There is no button to return a submission you have started. You can close one in two ways:

* **Decline an invitation** from Home, using the **X** on its card.
* Choose **I'm not interested** on an opportunity's agreement step.

Both close the application for good, and you cannot take part in that opportunity later. Leaving a study you are not comfortable with does not harm your account standing.

> If a study's content is not right for you, see [Your Wellbeing and Sensitive
> Content](https://terac.com/docs/experts/policies/wellbeing) for more options.

## FAQ [#faq]

### How long does review take?

It depends on the opportunity and on who reviews it. The screen you land on after submitting shows what happens next. If it has been more than 7 days, [ask Sophia](https://terac.com/docs/experts/support/contact) and we'll chase it up.

### Can I edit my submission after submitting?

No. Once you submit a task, it cannot be edited. Make sure your responses are complete before submitting.

### What if I started but can't finish?

Your application stays open until you finish it, decline it, or the opportunity fills or ends. We may email you a reminder to finish it.

### Why was my submission rejected?

The rejection screen does not show a reason. Common reasons include:

* Responses didn't meet quality standards
* Answers contradicted your profile information
* Tasks were incomplete or rushed
* Technical issues prevented proper recording

### Can I appeal a rejection?

If you believe your submission was rejected in error, [ask Sophia](https://terac.com/docs/experts/support/contact) with the name of the opportunity, and she will pass it to our team.

### Can an approved submission still be rejected?

Yes. If an approved one-time submission is later rejected in review, the payment for it is reversed and a **Clawback** appears in your transaction history.
