# FAQ (https://terac.com/docs/researchers/support/faq)

Frequently asked questions from researchers using Terac.

## Account & Organization [#account--organization]

### How do I create an organization?

Sign up at [terac.com](https://terac.com) and follow the prompts to set up
your organization. See [Create Your
Organization](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/getting-started/create-organization) for a
full walkthrough.

### Can I belong to multiple organizations?

Yes. Use the organization switcher in the top-left of the dashboard to move
between organizations. Each has its own billing, members, and projects.

### How do I invite team members?

Go to Settings, then Members, and enter the email address of the person you
want to invite. They will receive an email with a link to join. See [Members
and Roles](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/team/members-and-roles).

### What roles are available?

Owner, Admin, and Member. Owner and Admin can build, launch, and review
studies and manage billing and members; Member is read-only by default, so
anyone who needs to run studies needs Admin. See [Members and
Roles](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/team/members-and-roles) for the full permissions
table.

## Opportunities [#opportunities]

### How do I create an opportunity?

Navigate to a project and click **New Opportunity**. Follow the creation flow
to set up your title, description, compensation, screening, and filters. See
[Creating an
Opportunity](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/opportunities/creating-an-opportunity).

### Can I edit an opportunity after launching it?

Yes. You can adjust the participant cap, filters, compensation, and screening
questions on an active opportunity. Already-screened participants are not
re-evaluated when you change screening or filters. Larger changes to task
structure are best made while the opportunity is paused. See [Opportunity
Lifecycle](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/opportunities/opportunity-lifecycle).

### How do I pause or stop an opportunity?

From the opportunity, use the status controls in the header to pause or stop.
Pausing is temporary and can be reversed. Stopping is permanent. See
[Opportunity
Lifecycle](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/opportunities/opportunity-lifecycle).

### Can I duplicate an opportunity?

Yes. Use the **Duplicate** action from any existing opportunity to create a
copy with all the same settings. Adjust what you need and launch.

### What opportunity types are there?

Two: **unmoderated**, where each expert completes a task on their own time (a
survey, an in-app activity, or an external link), and **human-moderated**,
where each expert books a live call with you. Picking a type seeds the right
task defaults; everything stays editable afterwards. See [Creating an
Opportunity](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/opportunities/creating-an-opportunity).

## Recruitment & Screening [#recruitment--screening]

### How do filters work?

Filters determine which experts can see your opportunity. Only experts
matching all your filters will have the opportunity appear in their listing.
Filters are applied before participants see the opportunity. See
[Filters](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/recruitment/filters).

### What is the difference between filters and screening questions?

Filters control who can see and apply to your opportunity (hard requirements).
Screening questions are asked during the application flow and evaluate whether
an applicant qualifies (soft requirements).

### How many participants can I recruit?

You set a participant cap when creating your opportunity. Recruitment
continues until the cap is reached or you stop the opportunity. You can adjust
the cap on an active opportunity.

### Can I invite specific experts?

Not directly. You describe the audience you need through filters, a candidate
profile, and screeners, and Terac matches and invites experts against that
definition. If you need particular people or a re-contact of a previous
study's participants, ask your Terac contact. See
[Recruitment](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/recruitment).

### What are quotas?

Quotas let you control how many participants you need for specific screening
answers, ensuring a balanced sample. Quotas are set per screening question.
See [Screening](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/opportunities/screening).

### How do I know if Terac can recruit my audience?

For most audiences, the Feasibility page in your organization shows how many
matching experts exist for a given set of filters. For niche or hard-to-reach
audiences, request a feasibility check and share your audience, methodology,
length, sample size, geography, and timeline. See [Feasibility &
Coverage](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/recruitment/feasibility).

### How long does recruitment take?

It depends on how common your audience is and how long the task is. Common
audiences typically fill within about a week, with first completes often
within a few days. Niche audiences that need targeted outreach usually take
one to two weeks. Your study's delivery estimate is shown in the
dashboard once it is live. See [Feasibility &
Coverage](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/recruitment/feasibility).

### Can I edit screening questions after launching?

Yes. You can edit screening questions on a live study. Participants who were
already screened are not re-evaluated, so the change applies only to
participants screened after it. See [Opportunity
Lifecycle](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/opportunities/opportunity-lifecycle).

## Billing & Payments [#billing--payments]

### How does billing work?

Terac uses a credits-based system. You purchase credits upfront and they are
deducted when you approve participant submissions. See
[Credits](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/finance/credits).

### When am I charged?

Credits are only deducted when you approve a submission. You are never charged
for screened-out, rejected, abandoned, or timed-out participants.

### How do I avoid running out of credits mid-study?

Credits do not top up automatically, so keep a buffer above what your live
studies need and top up from the Finance page when the balance runs low. If
you want a standing arrangement so live studies never stall on funds, talk to
your Terac contact. See [Credits](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/finance/credits).

### How do participants get paid?

Payouts are triggered automatically when you approve a submission. Terac
handles the payout end to end and participants choose how to receive their
earnings from the options available in their region, so you never handle
participant payment details.

### What does the cost per participant (CPI) include?

When a cost is quoted as a single per-participant figure, that total is the
participant's incentive plus Terac's platform fee. The incentive is
what the participant earns; the platform fee covers sourcing, screening, and
management. Longer or more specialized studies carry higher incentives. See
[Pricing](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/finance/pricing).

### Will I be charged if a study has to be re-run due to a technical issue?

No. Work that fails because of a platform issue on Terac's side is not
charged, and a re-run for that reason is not deducted from your balance. If
you think you were charged for a submission affected by a platform issue,
contact support. See [Pricing](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/finance/pricing).

## Interviews & Insights [#interviews--insights]

### How does the AI moderator work?

The AI moderator conducts voice interviews following your research guide. It
asks questions, probes for deeper answers, and evaluates responses against
your screening policy. Recordings and transcripts are saved automatically.

### Can I watch interview recordings?

Yes. All AI-moderated interviews are recorded. Access them from the
opportunity Submissions tab or the research guide's Interviews tab. See
[Interviews](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/results/interviews).

### What are insights?

Insights are AI-generated themes and findings extracted from completed
interviews. They include key quotes and evidence links back to specific
interview moments. See [Insights](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/results/insights).

### Why are some interviews missing screen recordings?

Screen recording works on desktop. Mobile operating systems restrict screen
capture, so a study that requires a screen recording should be run on desktop.
A current Chrome-based browser is the most reliable for the voice session. See
[Technical Requirements](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/results/interviews).

### How do I access results after a study closes?

Completed interviews, recordings, transcripts, and AI summaries stay available
in the opportunity Submissions tab and the research guide's Interviews tab
after a study closes. You can also generate insight reports from the completed
data. See [Interviews](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/results/interviews) and
[Insights](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/results/insights).

## Integrations [#integrations]

### Does Terac have an API?

Yes. The Terac API provides full programmatic access to create and manage
opportunities, recruitment, and submissions. See the [Developer
Docs](https://terac.com/docs/developers/guides).

### Can I connect Slack?

Yes. The Slack integration sends real-time notifications about opportunity
activity to your Slack workspace. See
[Slack](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/integrations/slack).

### What other integrations are available?

Terac integrates with Slack and Google Calendar. API keys are available for
custom integrations. See [Integrations](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/integrations).

### How do I track completions from my own survey or task tool?

Use redirect URLs. Terac sends each participant to your tool with their
submission ID attached, and at the end your tool redirects them back to
Terac's callback URL with a result (completed, screened out, over-quota,
or rejected). Without it, completions cannot be detected and submissions are
auto-rejected after sitting unconfirmed. See [External Surveys & Redirect
URLs](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/integrations/external-surveys).

## Data & Privacy [#data--privacy]

### What participant data do I get?

By default, Terac does not surface participant personally identifiable
information such as full name or email in your results. Participants are
identified by their submission and profile. See
[Security](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/team/security).

### Can I recruit participants under 18?

No. Terac is for adults: under the [Terms of
Service](https://terac.com/legal/terms-of-service), people under 18 are not permitted to
register for or use the Services, so every participant delivered to your study
is 18 or older. If your research needs a minor audience, raise it with your
Terac contact before building the study. See
[Security](https://terac.com/docs/researchers/team/security).
