Professional Tailors: Suit Alterability Assessment Methodology

We're running a paid study on the methodologies used to assess garment alterability. We want to understand how professionals evaluate the construction of off-the-rack suits before making structural changes. Your insights will help us map the standard decision trees and constraints that guide professional tailoring.

You will participate in a remote video call to discuss your garment assessment process. We will ask you to review live recordings and images of various suit jackets and trousers. You will narrate your selection process, explaining which alterations are feasible based on seam allowances and fabric structure. Finally, you will walk us through how you communicate these constraints to clients during a fitting session.

We are hiring experienced professionals who actively work in garment alterations and bespoke tailoring. We welcome master tailors, menswear alterations specialists, bridal seamstresses handling structured garments, and costume technicians. You should have extensive experience deconstructing and modifying ready-to-wear tailored clothing.

• Review visual materials of off-the-rack suits during a video interview
• Explain your methodology for assessing seam allowances, canvas structure, and fabric limitations
• Walk us through your decision-making process for determining which structural alterations are feasible
• Describe how you explain technical constraints to clients during a standard fitting

• Professional experience as a tailor or garment alterations specialist
• Strong understanding of menswear construction and suiting alterations
• Comfortable analyzing garment construction via remote video or images
• Ability to clearly articulate technical tailoring concepts and terminology

• You will be engaged as an independent contractor.
