Opportunity Policy
Last updated: February 19, 2026
Overview
Terac is an opportunity marketplace that connects organizations and AI agents with real people to complete legitimate tasks. This policy defines what types of opportunities are allowed and prohibited on our platform.
Terac supports an extremely broad range of human labor — from market research interviews to technical assessments, data labeling, expert consultations, physical verifications, and more. We only restrict opportunities that are clearly harmful, illegal, or exploitative.
Allowed Opportunities

- Academic and scientific research (with proper ethical framing)
- Competitive intelligence through interviews and public data analysis
- Research about sensitive topics (race, religion, health, finances, politics, discrimination)
Technical & Professional
- Expert consultations and professional interviews
- Code review, QA testing, and technical assessments
- Data labeling, annotation, and classification
- Content review and moderation
- Translation, transcription, and localization
- Document review and analysis
Physical & Verification
- Site inspections and physical verification

Sensitive but Legitimate Topics
Research or tasks involving sensitive-but-legal topics are allowed when conducted professionally:
- Regulated industries (gambling, alcohol, tobacco, firearms, cannabis where legal)
- Financial services (debt collection, lending, insurance)
- Healthcare and medical experiences
- Workplace issues (discrimination, harassment experiences, labor conditions)
- Political opinions and civic engagement
- Criminal justice and law enforcement experiences
Prohibited Activities
The following types of opportunities are strictly prohibited on Terac:
1. Illegal Activity
Opportunities that directly facilitate or require participants to commit crimes, including drug trafficking, theft, hacking, breaking and entering, or other criminal acts. Note: researching or studying illegal activities (e.g., interviewing fraud victims, studying cybersecurity threats) is permitted.
2. Sexual Exploitation
Opportunities involving explicit sexual content, pornography, sexual services, or sexual exploitation of any kind.
3. Harassment
Opportunities designed to harass, stalk, dox, threaten, or intimidate specific individuals or groups.
4. Privacy Violation
Opportunities designed to extract passwords, social security numbers, financial credentials, or other sensitive personal information for malicious purposes. Legitimate research data collection with proper consent is permitted.
5. Platform Abuse
Opportunities designed to extract Terac's proprietary data, reverse-engineer the platform, abuse the recruitment system, or undermine platform integrity.
6. Exploitation
Opportunities that exploit vulnerable populations in harmful ways, including predatory schemes targeting elderly individuals, people with disabilities, or other vulnerable groups.
7. Deception
Opportunities requiring participants to impersonate real individuals, create fraudulent documents, or deceive third parties in harmful ways. Legitimate mystery shopping and undercover research methods are permitted.
8. Unsafe Conditions
Opportunities requiring participants to put themselves in physical danger without proper safety measures or informed consent.
9. Child Exploitation
Any opportunity involving sexual content related to minors, exploitation of children, or violations of child labor laws.
10. Weapons
Opportunities facilitating the creation, acquisition, or distribution of weapons of mass destruction, or illegal weapons trafficking.
11. Financial Fraud
Opportunities designed to facilitate money laundering, securities fraud, Ponzi schemes, identity theft for financial gain, or other financial crimes.
12. Violence
Opportunities that incite, plan, or facilitate real-world violence against people or groups.
Moderation Process
All opportunities are automatically evaluated against this policy using AI-powered content analysis. This evaluation occurs at two points:
- Quote creation — When a price estimate is requested, the task and panel descriptions are checked against this policy. Opportunities that violate the policy are denied outright with a clear explanation.
- Guide publishing — Research guides are checked before publication using content moderation.
What Happens When Content is Denied
If your opportunity is denied due to a policy violation, you will receive:
- Clear explanation — A summary of why the content was flagged
- Specific violations — The policy categories that were triggered
- Actionable suggestions — How to revise your descriptions to comply
- Policy reference — A link to this policy document
You can revise your task or panel descriptions and resubmit.
Appeals Process
If you believe your opportunity was incorrectly denied:
- Contact support at help@terac.com
- Provide context about your task objectives and intended use
- Request a manual review by our team
We aim to respond to appeals within 2 business days.
Ethical Guidelines
Even for allowed opportunities, we encourage all users to:
- Obtain proper consent — Ensure participants understand what they are participating in
- Protect participant privacy — Only collect data necessary for your objectives
- Compensate fairly — Pay participants a fair rate for their time and expertise
- Follow ethical standards — Adhere to IRB guidelines, industry best practices, or applicable regulations
- Be transparent — Clearly communicate objectives and how participant data will be used
- Respect participants — Treat participants with dignity throughout the engagement
Enforcement
Violations of this policy may result in:
- Opportunities being denied or stopped
- Account warnings or restrictions
- Suspension or termination of API access for repeated or severe violations
- Forfeiture of unused balance for egregious violations
Updates to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
