Completing Tasks
How to complete research tasks including surveys, uploads, and more.
Tasks are the main activities in a study. After passing screening, you'll complete one or more tasks to earn your payout.
Task Types
Survey Tasks
Answer questions about your experiences, opinions, or behaviors:
- Multiple choice questions
- Rating scales
- Open-ended text responses
Tips:
- Read each question carefully
- Provide thoughtful, complete responses
- Take your time on open-ended questions
Interview Tasks
Participate in a voice conversation (see AI-Moderated Interviews):
- Answer questions verbally
- Discuss topics in depth
- Share your experiences
File Upload Tasks
Submit documents, images, or other files:
- Screenshots
- Documents
- Photos
- Receipts or proof of purchase
Tips:
- Ensure files meet the size and format requirements
- Make sure images are clear and readable
- Remove sensitive personal information if not required
Multi-Part Tasks
Some studies include multiple tasks:
- Complete them in order
- All tasks must be finished for approval
- Progress is saved between sessions (if allowed)
Understanding Task Instructions
Before starting a task, read the instructions carefully:
- What's expected: The specific deliverable or response needed
- Time limit: How long you have to complete the task
- Quality requirements: What makes a good submission
If instructions are unclear, check for a help section or contact support before proceeding.
Time Limits and Deadlines
Some tasks have time constraints:
Task Timer
Once you start a task, a timer may begin. You must complete the task before time runs out.
Study Deadline
The overall study may have a completion deadline. Check your submission details for any deadlines.
What If Time Runs Out?
If you don't complete a task in time:
- Your work may be auto-submitted as-is
- The task may expire, requiring researcher intervention
- In some cases, you may lose the opportunity
Submitting Your Work
When you've completed a task:
- Review your responses
- Make sure all required fields are filled
- Click Submit
- Confirm your submission
Most submissions cannot be edited after submitting. Double-check your work before clicking Submit.
Review Process
After submission, your work goes through review:
Auto-Judge
Some tasks are evaluated automatically:
- Immediate feedback
- Based on predefined criteria
- Usually for simple surveys
Manual Review
Researchers review your responses:
- Takes 1-5 business days typically
- More thorough evaluation
- May include quality scoring
Quality Check
Our system checks for:
- Completeness
- Consistency with your profile
- Response quality
Task Status
Track each task's status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| PENDING | Not yet started |
| IN_PROGRESS | Currently working |
| COMPLETED | Submitted, awaiting review |
| APPROVED | Accepted by reviewer |
| REJECTED | Not accepted |
Tips for High-Quality Submissions
- Follow instructions exactly don't improvise unless asked
- Be thorough incomplete responses are often rejected
- Be genuine authentic responses are more valuable
- Proofread check for typos in written responses
- Meet requirements ensure uploads meet size/format specs
FAQ
Can I pause and resume a task?
It depends on the task. Some allow you to save progress; others must be completed in one session. Check the task instructions.
What if I submit by mistake?
Contact support immediately. In some cases, they may be able to help, but there's no guarantee.
Why was my task rejected?
Common reasons:
- Incomplete responses
- Responses didn't follow instructions
- Quality didn't meet standards
- Technical issues (audio didn't record, file corrupted)
Can I redo a rejected task?
Generally no. Each task allows one submission. However, researchers may sometimes offer a second chance.
